What are Music Discs?
Version Note: This guide is written specifically for Minecraft: Java Edition 26.1.2, the version currently used by Blockhead Odyssey. Minecraft’s music-disc collection changes as new game drops are released.
Music discs are collectible records that can be played in a jukebox, allowing you to choose the music playing around your base instead of waiting for Minecraft’s ambient soundtrack to start on its own.
As of Minecraft: Java Edition 26.1.2, there are 21 vanilla music discs to collect. Blockhead Odyssey also has its own custom music disc, Sea Shanty, introduced in August 2026, bringing another tune to the server’s collection.
What Do Music Discs Do?
The basic use is simple: place a jukebox, hold a music disc, and right-click the jukebox to insert it. The corresponding track will begin playing nearby. Right-click the jukebox again to eject the disc.
Music discs have a couple of less obvious uses as well.
A redstone comparator placed next to a jukebox produces a signal based on the disc inserted. Different discs produce different signal strengths, allowing jukeboxes to be incorporated into redstone locks, selectors, displays, and other contraptions. With more discs now existing than the 15 possible non-zero comparator strengths, some newer records share a signal strength with older ones.
Music also has an important connection to allays. An allay near a playing jukebox will dance. Give the dancing allay an amethyst shard and it will duplicate, creating another allay. Both then have a five-minute duplication cooldown.
The Classic Creeper Discs
Twelve of Minecraft’s discs can all be obtained using one of the game’s strangest mechanics:
Have a skeleton kill a creeper.
When a creeper is killed by a projectile fired by a skeleton-type mob capable of triggering the mechanic, it drops one random disc from the classic set instead of one of the later special discs. This makes these records renewable and allows players to build music-disc farms.
The twelve possible discs are:

Finding 13 and cat in Chests
You do not necessarily have to arrange a skeleton-versus-creeper showdown to find 13 or cat. In Java Edition, both can also appear in:
- Monster Room chests
- Ancient City chests
- Woodland Mansion chests
In Java Edition 26.1.2, each has about a 19.4% chance in a Monster Room chest, 16.1% in an Ancient City chest, and 21.8% in a Woodland Mansion chest.
Pigstep
Pigstep, composed by Lena Raine, has its own acquisition method.
You must venture into the Nether and search Bastion Remnants. Pigstep can appear in bastion loot chests and cannot be obtained from the skeleton-and-creeper method.
The chance of finding it in the applicable bastion loot is approximately 5.6%, making exploration of several bastions potentially necessary.
otherside
Lena Raine’s otherside is another exploration-based disc.
It can be found in:
- Ancient City chests — about 8.4%
- Monster Room chests — about 3%
- Stronghold altar chests — about 2.5%
Ancient Cities therefore provide the best individual chest chance of the three.
Music Disc 5
5, composed by Samuel Åberg, is unique because it is the only vanilla music disc you actually craft.
You first need to explore an Ancient City and collect Disc Fragment 5 from its chests. Once you have nine fragments, arrange them together in a crafting table to make Music Disc 5.
Unlike most Minecraft records, 5 is not simply a conventional song. Its audio tells an ominous story through environmental sounds, footsteps, machinery, disturbances, and music.
Relic
Relic, composed by Aaron Cherof, is connected to Minecraft’s archaeology system.
Find a Trail Ruins structure and use a brush on suspicious gravel. Relic is part of the rare archaeology loot pool, with approximately an 8.3% chance when the appropriate rare loot is generated.
You cannot get Relic through ordinary Trail Ruins chests or from creepers.
Creator (Music Box)
Creator (Music Box) by Lena Raine is found inside Trial Chambers.
Look for decorated pots in Trial Chamber corridors and break them. The disc is a rare drop, appearing approximately 1.4% of the time in the applicable pots.
As its name suggests, this is the shorter music-box interpretation of the full Creator track.
Precipice
Aaron Cherof’s Precipice also comes from Trial Chambers, but through a different system.
Use ordinary Trial Keys on regular Vaults. Precipice is one of the rare rewards available from those vaults.
Do not confuse regular Vaults with Ominous Vaults—those are needed for the next disc.
Creator
The full version of Lena Raine’s Creator comes from Ominous Vaults in Trial Chambers.
To access an Ominous Vault, you must participate in the ominous version of a Trial Chamber encounter and acquire an Ominous Trial Key. Creator has roughly a 7.5% chance of appearing as Ominous Vault loot.
That gives Trial Chambers three separate records to pursue:

Tears
Tears, composed by Amos Roddy, requires something considerably more dramatic than opening a chest.
You must kill a ghast with its own deflected fireball.
When the player reflects a ghast’s fireball and that projectile kills the ghast, it drops the Tears music disc. Simply killing a ghast normally does not satisfy the requirement.
Lava Chicken
Lava Chicken by Hyper Potions was added to Java Edition in 1.21.7 and remains present in 26.1.2.
To get it, find a Chicken Jockey—a baby zombie riding a chicken—and defeat the baby zombie rider while it is still riding the chicken. The regular baby zombie Chicken Jockey is the version associated with the disc.
Because naturally occurring Chicken Jockeys are uncommon to begin with, Lava Chicken can be one of the more inconvenient records to intentionally hunt.

That 21-disc total is specific to the version currently used by Blockhead Odyssey, Java Edition 26.1.2. A later Minecraft release adds additional music, so lists written for newer versions may contain discs that are not yet part of our server version.
Music Discs on Blockhead Odyssey
Blockhead Odyssey expands the idea of collectible records beyond vanilla Minecraft.
Sea Shanty
In August 2026, Blockhead Odyssey introduced the custom Sea Shanty music disc. Unlike simply replacing one of Minecraft’s existing songs, it was created as a server-specific collectible disc that can be played as part of Blockhead Odyssey’s expanded music system.
That means players on Blockhead Odyssey have more music to discover than the vanilla 21-disc collection alone.
Keep an eye out for additional custom records as Odyssia’s collection continues to expand.
